Wipe the rim with a damp paper towel, place the lid on the jar, and screw on the band until fingertip tight. Place the filled jar back into the canner, then repeat with the remaining jars.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 6: Process in a Water Bath Canner<\/h3><p>Once all the jars are filled and placed back into the canner, adjust the water level so they are covered by at least two inches of water. Bring the canner to a rolling boil. Once the water boils vigorously, set a timer and process the jars in a boiling water bath canner for the times indicated in the recipe below, adjusting the processing time for altitude if needed.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 7: Cool and Store<\/h3><p>When the processing time is up, turn off the heat and remove the canner\u2019s lid. Let it settle for 5 minutes to adjust to the temperature change.&nbsp;<\/p><p>Spread a dry towel on the counter. Then, use the jar lifter to remove the jars and place them on the towel, spacing them a few inches apart. Keep them upright as you lift them out of the canner, put them on the towel, and let them cool undisturbed for 12 to 24 hours.&nbsp;Don&#8217;t touch the lids or bands yet. The jars need to cool naturally to form a tight seal.<\/p><p>After at least 12 hours, check the seals by pressing the center of each lid. If the lid does not pop up, the jar is sealed. Wash the jars to remove residue, then store the sealed jars in a cool, dark place for 12 to 18 months. Cover the canner and bring it to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.<\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-19034-step-4-1\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\">Once boiling, set a timer and process half-pint jars for 15 minutes in a boiling water bath canner at altitudes of less than 1,000 ft. (adjust the processing time for higher altitudes).<\/div><\/li><\/ul><\/div><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-group\"><h4 class=\"wprm-recipe-group-name wprm-recipe-instruction-group-name wprm-block-text-bold\">Cool and Store:<\/h4><ul class=\"wprm-recipe-instructions\"><li id=\"wprm-recipe-19034-step-5-0\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\">When the processing time is up, turn off the heat and remove the canner lid. Wait 5 minutes to allow the canner to adjust to the temperature change.<\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-19034-step-5-1\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\">Spread a dry kitchen towel on the counter. Use a jar lifter to remove the jars one at a time from the canner. Keep the jars upright and place them on the towel. Do not tighten ring bands or test the seals yet. Let the jars sit undisturbed for 12 to 24 hours to cool.<\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-19034-step-5-2\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\">After the jars have cooled for at least 12 hours, check to be sure the lids have sealed by pushing on the center of the lid. The lid should not pop up. If the lid flexes up and down, it did not seal.
